Success Stories

Linda Westbrook

Thanks so much for all your help and concern. I must tell you that having Brent Foster here was the best thing that ever happened to us. What a smart, helpful, fantastic guy. He spent time with us until we understood everything that he was talking about. We have made huge strides in correcting problems we have had for years and didn’t even know it! Besides doing all the work on the vents and having Mr. Miller here getting the ducts sealed, we have done a lot of the little things, like putting the little covers in the plugs and caulking all over the place. We think it is all money worth spent. We even had our garage door opener replaced as that was the only way to fill a huge gap and we already can feel the difference. No more wind blowing through the house! Anyway, just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate it. Hope the county gets to keep this project. Wish there was some way of letting other seniors know that they can really do this! You guys gave us the confidence.

Fairchild Record Services

The free energy walk-through I had at my two story office building with Thurston Energy and PSE was quick and informative. They sourced that the major energy upgrades I could do were overhead lighting and heating system. Thurston Energy connected me with a local lighting contractor to do the work and now I’m saving around $300 a month. Saving nearly $4000 a year on my energy bill is a big deal for a small business owner. I’m using these savings and accessing the Thurston Energy lending program to install solar panels on my building. Renee Ries – President, Fairchild Record Search and commercial property owner

Our experience was good! Brent and his wife were very nice, informative and the entire process was very interesting. We took his suggestions and have fixed several of the recommended items. We are to finish two more items this weekend. I will be anxious to see a PSE bill to see if the changes make a difference!

Batdorf & Bronson

Batdorf & Bronson is a family owned, local coffee roaster celebrating our 25th anniversary. We are dedicated to sustainable and green practices. Thurston Energy and PSE sourced a glaring oversight in our green practices…the roasting room had 23 metal halides that we promptly upgraded to high output T-5’s. We appreciated the collaboration and assistance that Thurston Energy provided. The local utility rebated 60% of the cost and we’re saving nearly $2,000 a year on our energy bill. We feel better about the way we use energy and our employees are much happier at work because the lighting is much better quality. The partnership with Thurston Energy has led to on-going collaborations throughout our local community. Jim Unzicker, Maintenance Engineer – Batdorf & Bronson Coffee Roasters

West Coast Bank

Lacey Branch

We had an energy walk-through at our Lacey branch, and after running the numbers and realizing it made sense we took Thurston Energy up on their recommendations. We installed new lighting, new toilets and tuned up our heating & cooling system. The payoff in energy efficiency and lowering our operating costs has been realized. We’ve cut our lighting bill by a third and with PSE rebates the upgrade will pay for itself in under two years. We also eliminated problems with over-using water. This program is worthwhile and other businesses should take advantage of Thurston Energy’s commercial services. Tim Dowling, West Coast Bank – South Puget Sound President

Even though we had done what we knew to be all major energy-saving improvements prior to moving into this repurposed “mid-century modern” home, the energy auditor advised the piece we did not know about, which in fact has the quickest payback time, sealing the perimeter from air infiltration. The audit investment was probably the best energy-saving measure we did. We already have more money in our pocket.

This is a great program to help us see where best to take action. Not only will this help us reduce carbon footprint and help slow climate change, but it will also save some money in winter.

I had the duct seal done on the energy audit. They found 3 ducts had fallen apart and major leaks in 5 others. I really notice the difference already. I am looking forward to a smaller energy bill this winter.

I think this is a great program! Kudos to Thurston Energy for doing your part to save our natural resources :)

During our energy assessment the blower door test showed that we not only had some leaking heat ducts but a more serious issue emerged. A couple of years ago we contracted a local company to build an addition. The addition included a skylight in the bathroom. When the blower door test was administered we discovered that the contractor failed to seal the skylight so a great deal of our heating costs were literally going up and out of our house. Thanks to this test we knew we needed to seal the skylight and we saved $$ on our energy bills.

We had an energy audit performed on our house last year. Though we knew we had good insulation and windows, we wanted to make sure everything was done properly and working right. We found out there were a couple of places where we did not have a good seal, including where the chimney for our woodstove entered our attic — meaning heat we had cold air coming down the outside of the chimney through 2 stories. We quickly followed up with a contractor to perform the necessary repairs. We especially appreciated the professionalism and thoroughness of the audit and the prioritized list of actions we could take with estimated costs and savings. We have since moved into another house and are planning to have an energy audit conducted on it very soon.
